Set up a community development trust as a vehicle for local people to
re-develop and manage a church hall as a community facility.
Organised a community consultation exercise; prepared a constitution for the trust; built the capacity of directors; helped them prepare a business plan.
Carried out an options appraisal of the proposed community facility involving;
stakeholder consultation; audit of local service provision; research into
similar facilities; market analysis; outline technical appraisal; financial
projections; formulation of a development plan.
Developed a wider role strategy for the association that involved;
development workshops with senior staff; project development; assessment
of sources of funding.
Action for Children Scotland
Three distinct but related projects, all of which revolved around the development
and sustainability of Youthbuild, a construction training project for disadvantaged
young people.
Business planning
Developed a fully costed business plan for Youthbuild that secured
grant support to sustain the project for 4 years in Scotland. Similar
exercises were conducted to establish Youthbuild in England and Wales.
Development planning
Part of a team that re-modelled the Youthbuild project to obtain venture
philanthropy investment of £4.5 million from Inspiring Scotland to secure
the long-term future of the project
Social Enterprise Development (in association with REM Consultancy)
Produced a business plan to establish a grounds maintenance company
offering employment to disadvantaged young people. The work involved;
development workshops with key staff and stakeholders; market analysis;
governance and management; financial projections; risk assessment;
accessing financial support.
